How To: Be the Hostess with the Most-est

The holiday season is fast approaching and with it, those endless festive fêtes… Feeling overwhelmed already? Never fear! We’ve picked some of our favorite hosting tips to share so you can get ahead of party planning.

1. Dress to Impress

And most importantly to be comfortable!!
Our new Ball Skirt (pictured above) is fabulous and comfy…the perfect piece to play hostess in. With two different length options, you can make a statement in heels or run around in flats (all ethically produced, thank you very much).
What you wear sets the tone of your get together!

2. Choose a Theme

We’re not talking about a Prom theme here, picking a theme can often help streamline your party planning and keep you on track. Old Hollywood Glamour, Rustic Forest, or Tropical Getaway…simple or elaborate, themes help reflect the vibe you want to set and also help your guests get in the mood! Pinterest has got you covered with tons of ideas and how-to’s.
Kick it up a notch by tying in everything from invitations to table settings for an even more memorable event.

3. Create a Signature Cocktail

Another way to make your party stand out from the rest is to dedicate an area within your kitchen or dining as a “home bar” featuring your favorite cocktail! Instead of playing bartender all night, having a big batch of something festive prepared like this Winter Cranberry Martini is an easy way to shake up your typical wine and beer offerings.

4. Consider Some Favors

Going along with your chosen theme, party favors don’t have to be expensive or extravagant. Small pots of herbs or succulents make a great takeaway - even sending out some home-baked goods cleverly wrapped can make an impact.

5. K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, sweetheart)

Always remember to s i m p l i f y so you can stay calm and actually enjoy your event too!

KOKOON has been Made in the USA since we were born in 1987.
Ethical, small batch manufacturing is one of our core values.

Our Brookland Blouse is one of our classic bestsellers. This Navy Red Stripe is a super soft stretchy jersey with a brushed surface.

If you haven’t tried our slips and camis yet, you’re in for a treat! Once you try them, you’ll be hooked!

Pumpkin Spice (and Everything Nice)

With kiddos hitting the streets in superhero costumes tonight, why not dawn your own cape this Halloween? Our fall photo shoot with Melissa Louise Photography features the new camo Rah Rah Reversible Cape (with pockets!) so you can stay warm while handing out candy.

And just in case you’re already getting sick of pumpkin-flavored-everything, here’s a gluten-free twist on a fall treat I made this week. Not exactly what I had planned, but when your husband comes home with a big bag of pears (nature’s candy), it’s time to improvise…and it turned out delicous! It’s subtle and not too sweet.

Behind The Seams

Yesterday's photoshoot was so lucky ~ sandwiched between huge thunderstorms the night before, and even bigger ones to come later that day!
We're in love with this striped turtleneck that we just put into work.  Of course it has a "little something" to make it special, you'll just have to wait to see what it is ;-)

The Future is in Good Hands

Thursday marked the inaugural event of The Clothing Collective, a fundraiser to benefit sex traffic victims in the Philippines.

This was an ambitious project...the goal was to raise $50,000 to fund 2 safe houses in the Philippines. The creators, (mostly young twenty-somethings) Sami Huerta of Simply Sami, Paul Weaver, and a group of their friends got together and just made it happen. At Aria no less!

We donated some KOKOON overstock, as did some other local designers and retailers, and there was lots of additional gently-used clothing and accessories from individuals. The vibe was one of a slightly sophisticated and elevated clothing swap.

Racks of gently used clothing were grouped by price point, $5, $10, $15, etc. What I thought was most brilliant was the signage at the ends of the racks ~
$5 buys a girl 3 meals for one day.
$15 provides transportation for a month.

The new donations from designers and retailers was a bit more confusing, with bid sheets on high tables next to each rack. I think next time the organizers will arrange that differently, but they adjusted on the fly and made it work. I suspect that if they continue with this event they will attract a tremendous amount of support.
I, for one, will donate more next year, and probably a younger assortment, as I noticed my more mature styles were still on the rack, and my friend and I were double the age of just about anyone else there.
But that's what was so striking and hopeful. It was quite emotional to see these young, energetic people use their time and talents to reach so far outside themselves to benefit others so desperately in need.

I scored this cool cuff for $10.

And this cute little jean jacket for $25, along with a fantastic BCBG wool sweater, and a sky blue knitted sweater coat.

Here's adorable Sami and her equally adorable mom.

Keep your eye on this girl, she's going to change the world.
