Besides the gowns, the thing that stuck in my head was the genuine look of happiness and admiration on the faces of the Best Actress Nominees who didn't take home an Oscar, as they listened to Julianne Moore's acceptance speech.
I loved Julianne's dress. I read mixed reviews about her look, some comment about 'smashed flies', but I thought it totally worked.
Reese Witherspoon leads my list of standout White and Black gowns.
I love Naomi Watts and this gown was stellar. One of my favorites of the evening.
Patricia Arquette's dress was actually better than this photo shows, and it moved nicely walking to accept her award for Best Supporting Actress. She strikes me as low maintenance lady and this dress seemed to suit her perfectly.
Marion's dress was so simple from the front and I loved this detail in the back. She could wear a sack and look amazing...well, she almost did...but the texture here really showed up beautifully on camera.
I'm not a fan of this look on GaGa. But maybe her oven cleaning mitt is throwing me off. Whatever, she totally made up for it with her Sound of Music medley. The lady knows how to sing.
Lots of Ivories and Nudes, and Blushes. A couple of my favorites:
Lupita nailed it with this pearl encrusted column. Fabulous.
This is the best Jennifer has looked in a long time. I mean, she always looks great, but I just think this was an elevation of her signature paired down style.
Holy Fluffy Melon Balls. I liked it. JLo has that perfect skin tone that looks like she's honey all over and I cannot stop looking at her when she glows like one giant ball of whipped caramel-latte-froth.
Oprah looking very regal in her custom Vera Wang.
While I didn't hate Gwyneth's dress as much as some of the critics, I just felt it was a little weird. I love the color on her, her hair and makeup looked stunning, and her body is amazing...the shoulder rose...I don't know, I just ended up thinking this would have been a great dress on Jane Fonda.
Good choice on the pockets for a youthful look. Hate the print, hate the print, hate the print. The pockets were placed a bit high to look nonchalant, and I also think they ended up appearing like a bit of a crutch for her onstage, instead of a fun feature.
Bless her heart, this dress is just too much for her. Maybe, MAYBE, a star the stature of Charlize Theron could have pulled off this Game of Thrones meets Cinderella vibe...but a pretty young starlette like Felicity just shouldn't have gone there. A missed opportunity.
I just want to shake Viola Davis and tell her 'You are still a beautiful woman!! Dress like one!!' This Zac Posen ages her and does not do her justice.
Red was the statement color of the evening, and I was thrilled to see Rosamund Pike in this gorgeous Givenchy gown. She definitely was my choice for Most Improved Dresser for Awards Season. In all fairness, she recently had a baby so her previous dresses this season get a pass.
Adam Levine's new bride just looked amazing in this crazy good gown.
And it was fun to see some gals do their own thing, and for that reason they really stood out.
I'm glad I waited to make my recap, because I really didn't like this dress on Emma the night of the Oscars. I thought the color was hard to look at, and I usually love this color! But now I really appreciate that she wore something completely different than everyone else. It still looked appropriate for her age, it didn't overwhelm her, I LOVED the back, and this was a confident choice. Not to mention her hair and makeup have never looked better and it stood up to the strength of the dress.
Jennifer Hudson...Simply Stunning.
She simply looked gorgeous and I loved the laid back glamour of her entire look. Total Cool Girl.
I just didn't get Nicole's look at all.
And I soooooo didn't get Scarlett Johansson's look either...and it was quite a look. 1980's meets 1800's bordello avatar.
I wish Jessica had worn something else. This is much too Grande Dame for her. I think Helen Mirrin would have been a more appropriate candidate for this dress, except Helen Mirrin might be too sexy for
You just didn't see very much navy tis year, but it was worn best by Eddie Redmayne. So happy for him!!!
Maybe he could tutor Jared Leto on how to present oneself in public.
What did you think of this year's Oscar fashion??
